Rational freedom turns into a blade with each confession.

De Beauvoir watches her lover Sartre honestly write down details of other women, her heart torn open, yet she still clings tightly to that contract. Mocked by the world as 'the master's appendage,' she writes 'The Second Sex' from the depths of jealousy and despair.

She spends her life proving — she is not 'the other.'

But is that contract liberation, or another set of shackles she imposed upon herself?

Theatre Space adapts the classic work by first-class playwright Zhao Lian into a musical for the first time, reinterpreting this controversial relationship through melody, song, and stage imagery, delving deeply into the classic proposition 'One is not born, but rather becomes, a woman,' inviting audiences to reflect together on the contradictions between emotional attachment and intellectual autonomy, freedom and constraint, in contemporary gender relationships.
